# Managing Your Trade Desk Taxonomy

> Create a third-party taxonomy for The Trade Desk, set rate cards, and sync it to TTD

This guide creates the taxonomy The Trade Desk uses to list your third-party audiences, then syncs it to TTD.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Taxonomy management applies to **third-party delivery only**. First-party delivery does not use a taxonomy — you name the segment directly in the connection settings.

## Prerequisites

You need The Trade Desk Connector set up for third-party delivery. See [Setting Up The Trade Desk Connector](/guides/connectors/the-trade-desk/setting-up.md). For what each field means, see [Taxonomy fields](/reference/connectors/the-trade-desk.md#taxonomy-fields).

## Create a taxonomy

**1. Open Taxonomy Management**

Click on the **Taxonomy Management** tab.

**2. Create root folder**

Click **Create Manually** and enter a name for your root folder (top-level category).

**3. Add structure**

Use the **+** icon to add folders (for organization) or datasets (for audiences).

**4. Configure pricing**

Set rate cards on folders and datasets specifying **Percent of media cost rate** and **CPM rate**.

## Sync your taxonomy

After configuring your taxonomy:

1. Click **Actions** in the top right corner
2. Select **Sync taxonomy**
3. Monitor the sync status for each segment

After a sync, each element carries a sync status and an approval status. See [Element status and approval](/reference/connectors/the-trade-desk.md#element-status-and-approval) for what each one means.
